Hamilton Chairs
This set of 5 chairs, which was ordered by the Hamilton Estate in the first few years of the 19th century, matched a chair that was already in the collection, but with a different history of reupholstery.
My responsibilities included:
- Removing unoriginal, 20th century upholstery.
- Consolidating the frame with hide glue
- Taking samples for wood and finish identification
- Identifying the wood and finish layers under a microscope using bright field and UV fluorescence
- Designing and creating removable upholstery caps to allow period-appropriate upholstery to be displayed.
